The Presidential Candidate of the Convention Peoples’ Party, Lawyer Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, last Friday 12th February hinted at the Party’s Campaign theme for the 2016 general election, ‘GHANA GOES GREEN’ at a massive rally held in the Kumbungu constituency of the Northern region. The slogan for the campaign, #Ghana Goes Green "Green Ooooo".
The Flagbearer was accompanied by the National Chairman and Leader - Prof Edmund Delle, First Vice National Chairperson – Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, National Organiser – Emmanuel K. Ogborjor, National Women’s Organiser – Hajia Aisha Sulley Futa, Director of Communications – Kadiri Abdul Rauf, James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr (AKA Kabila), Nana Frimpomaa, Mamshie Omar Bawa, Rashid Alao, Kwame Yeboah and Isaac Winful Dadzie.
Explaining his vision, he said that #Ghana Goes Green would unleash a Golden Green Age of opportunity for all Ghanaians. He said that in life, with faith in God, hard work and discipline, support from loved ones and a fair system of Government, you could achieve anything in life. CPP, he said, has always represented this kind of hope. He said under his Government Ghana would experience a period of unmatched transformational development in the country based on the nation deriving greater control of its natural resources and its earnings from them. That this would be achieved by greater state intervention collectively on behalf of the people of Ghana and the wealth opportunities gained would be shared equitably for all the people.
At the forefront would be indigenous Ghanaian business enterprises that would be given total support and advantage. “For too long’, he said, “we have sat down to watch multi-national companies and foreign enterprises access all our resources and contracts whilst their nations get richer and ours poorer.” In this regard, he indicated that many of “the manufacturing enterprises that had been closed down would be resuscitated where there were still clear comparative advantages. This would generate opportunities for youth employment and training.”
With respect to agriculture, he said a Ghana Goes Green system would be introduced, utilizing technology which would create employment through new economic activities in the smallest of villages nationwide. This would reduce the continued massive and debilitating rural-urban migration.
Lawyer Greenstreet stated that details of what he described as the New Deal or Sacred Covenant would be made known to the people of Ghana through an interactive People’s Manifesto.
The Chairman and Leader, Professor Edmund Delle, stated emphatically that under his Leadership Ghanaians would see a new CPP that was united with a determined focus to wrestle political power. He said, whilst there was still widespread poverty, disease and illiteracy we all have to fight hard to save Ghana and offer hope to our youth and women for our future. He extolled the positive qualities of Comrade Greenstreet, the immediate ones being his great sense of humility, courage, understanding and his unbending love for Ghana. He encouraged the youth, women, PDW's and all and sundry to join the train of the green campaign as the most effective way of securing their future.
Meanwhile the Flagbearer visited the Central and “Afa-Ajura” mosques in Tamale to thank the almighty Allah for his victory in becoming the Presidential candidate of the CPP. He also showed gratitude to the muslims gathered or their prayers in bringing him thus far. The entourage continued their journey to Upper East.
